Wycoff Elementary Student Creates Celebration Bags for Local Foster Kids

John, a civic-minded 3rd grader at the Sicomac School in Wycoff, NJ recently created and donated 10 bags to the Care Plus Foundation Celebration Bag Initiative.  His donation directly impacts the lives of foster children in our community.

The Celebration Bag Initiative provides gift bags to the foster children currently enrolled in Care Plus NJ’s Supervised Visitation Program whose families have reached the goal of reunification.  Reunification between foster children and their biological families takes commitment and effort.  It is a notable accomplishment, one that Care Plus Foundation’s Celebration Bag Initiative recognizes.  Each bag contains items that encourage family time such as puzzles, games, journals, scrapbooks, photo albums and disposable cameras.

“The generosity and selflessness John and his family have displayed is truly appreciated by our program, and more importantly the children and families that are celebrating their goal of reunification as they transition out of foster care,” said Sabrina Coppola, program manager of Care Plus NJ’s Visitation Services.

Care Plus NJ’s Supervised Visitation Program provides a structured and therapeutic environment for parents to meet with their children currently in out-of-home placement.  The program strives to decrease the amount of time children spend in out-of-home placement, and move the family toward permanent placement, either with their biological family or in an adoptive home.  It provides psycho-education on parenting skills, child rearing techniques and child development; as well as anger and stress management.
