Harrington Park Middle SchoolERS Exemplify Community Spirit

Host Book Drive That Collected 1,200 Books

Harrington Park, NJ

December 2009

An industrious, community-focused group of 6th graders from Harrington Park School recently held a book drive.  The kids collected an astounding 1,200 books for their Friends of Fosters Club.  They donated the books to Care Plus NJ’s Adoption House in Union NJ.

Adoption House provides enriched services targeted to meet the needs of school-aged children going through the adoption placement process.  Programs facilitate the transition and ensure a smooth process, including appropriate closure with the child’s former home and positive new beginnings with their adoptive parents.  Adoption House programs also maintain meaningful relationships between siblings in separate living placement.

“Harrington Park School, as with all of our community partners, is proud to work alongside an organization such as Care Plus NJ to help provide for the needs of our larger community,” said Brian Gatens, principal of Harrington Park school.  “We instill in all of our students a sense of responsibility to themselves, their families and the larger community. Harrington Park School looks forward to many successful collaborations in the future.”

The Friends of Fosters Club book drive was held to ensure that every child at Adoption House has books in their adoptive home and to give hope to a group of deserving children, simply by giving them a chance – a chance to read and succeed.
